Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

To provide our personal and group expense management services, we collect and process the following:

  • Account data: Name, email address, profile picture, and username. This is provided when you sign up or sign in via our authentication provider (Clerk), including through Google, Apple, or email.
  • Expense and financial data you enter: Amounts, dates, categories, notes, tags, and whether an expense is personal or shared. We also store wallet, budget, and recurring transaction settings you configure.
  • Bank linking data (Plaid): If you connect a bank account through Plaid Link, we receive and store institution names, account identifiers, account types, balances, and transaction data (e.g. merchant, amount, date) that Plaid provides to us. Plaid's collection and use of data is governed by Plaid's privacy policy.
  • Social and shared data: Friend connections, friend requests, and shared or group expenses (including who paid and how amounts are split). When you add a shared expense, other members of that shared group can see the relevant details.
  • Product feedback: Feature requests and month notes you submit in the app.
  • Technical and analytics data: When you use our web app, we may use analytics (e.g. PostHog) to understand usage patterns (e.g. pages visited, feature use). This can include identifiers such as device or session information. If you are signed in, we may associate usage with your account to improve the product.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate the service: expense tracking, balances, reports, and category analytics.
  • To sync and display bank account and transaction data you have linked via Plaid.
  • To manage friends, shared expenses, and notifications related to your activity.
  • To send transactional emails (e.g. welcome email, account deletion verification code) via our email provider.
  • To improve the product using aggregated or pseudonymized analytics.

We do not sell your personal or financial data to third parties.

3. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to run the product. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they process data:

  • Clerk — Authentication (sign-in, profile). See Clerk's privacy policy.
  • Plaid — Bank linking. When you use Plaid Link, Plaid and your financial institution process your credentials and account data per Plaid's and the institution's terms and privacy policies.
  • Resend — Transactional email delivery (e.g. welcome, account deletion codes).
  • PostHog — Product analytics (optional; used when configured).

Sharing within the app: When you create or join shared expenses or groups, the information you add to those shared contexts (e.g. amounts, categories, who paid) is visible to the other members of that group. Your personal, non-shared expenses remain visible only to you (and to us as necessary to operate the service).

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for: (1) authentication and session management (e.g. via Clerk), and (2) product analytics (e.g. PostHog) when enabled. You can control or block non-essential cookies through your browser settings.

5. Data Security and Retention

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS) and, where applicable, encryption at rest by our infrastructure providers. We retain your data only as long as needed to provide the service and as described in our data retention and disposal policy (e.g. when you delete your account, we delete your data from our systems, including Plaid-derived data, subject to backups and any legal retention requirements).

6. Your Rights and Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and the personal and financial data we hold at any time. To do so, request account deletion (we will send a verification code to your email) or contact us at [email protected]. After verification, we will delete your account and associated data from our systems (including bank linkage and transaction data we store). Deletion from third-party systems (e.g. Clerk, Plaid) is subject to their policies.

Depending on your location, you may have additional rights (e.g. access, correction, portability, or objection). Contact us at [email protected] to exercise them.
